Bases

The Basics

A base is a core gameplay system in Palworld that serves as the player’s primary hub for construction, production, and Pal management. Bases define a protected operational area where structures can be built, resources can be processed, and Pals can be assigned to perform work.

Overview

A base is established by constructing a Palbox, which determines the base’s location and boundary. All base functionality—including structure placement, Pal assignment, storage access, and automation—operates within this defined area. If a base's Palbox is destroyed, the base will also be destroyed, and any structures within will begin to decay (if that setting is enabled).

As a base is upgraded, additional features are unlocked, including increased working Pal limits, expanded production options, and the ability to establish multiple base locations. Bases form the foundation of progression, enabling automation, farming, and large-scale item production while also serving as strategic targets during events such as Raids.

The number of Pals that can work at a base increases with base level. Active Pals automatically perform tasks at compatible structures within the base area. Pals can also be manually assigned to specific facilities by carrying and placing them near valid structures.

Bases can also be used as fast-travel points like Great Eagle Statue and Watchtower.

Base Mechanics

Workloads

Every task in a base, from producing items to cooking food to building structures, has a certain workload value assigned to it. Tasks with higher workload values take longer to complete, so it's important to employ Pals with high Work Suitabilities should one wish to complete things as quickly as possible.

Sanity

All Pals have a Sanity, or SAN, value that steadily decreases as it works at a base. When a Pal's SAN drops low enough, it will seek out the nearest resting structure (such as a Hot Spring) to regain SAN. If a Pal's SAN drops too low, it will start slacking off and refuse to do any tasks. If it stays too low for long enough, it may become depressed or sick, so it's important for players to keep their Pals' SAN as high as they can.

Illness

Pals may become ill when working at a base while injured or when their SAN drops below a set trigger value for long enough. While sick, their work speed will be reduced and they may refuse to perform any tasks, so it's important to stock up on medicines in the event a Pal falls ill.

Base Structures

Buildings

Bases support a wide range of buildable structures, including workbenches, production facilities, defensive structures, and utilities. Available buildings are primarily unlocked through the Technology tree and determine the scope of base activity.

Production

Production structures allow players to produce raw materials such as Wood, Stone, Ore, Sulfur, and more. They serve a vital function in ensuring a steady stream of these resources and making it so that one does not have to explore to find these items.

The best fits for production structures are Pals with Lumbering, Mining, and/or Transporting.

Manufacturing

Manufacturing structures allow players and Pals to create a variety of items from basic materials like Nail and Cloth to far more advanced components such as Hexolite and Thermal Core. They also allow players to craft weapons, armor, Spheres, accessories, and more.

The best fits for manufacturing structures are Pals with Handiwork, Kindling, and/or Medicine Production.

Farming

Farming structures allow for the production of crops and resources like Wool, Milk, Egg and Honey within a player's base. They allow players to ensure a steady supply of food for themselves and their Pals while also producing items that can be used for other things.

The best fits for farming structures are Pals with Planting, Watering, Gathering, Transporting, and/or Farming.

Storage

Storage structures are used to hold items, materials, and equipment within a base. While storage is shared for crafting, container capacity, preservation effects, and special behavior vary by storage type.

Base Size

A base has a radius of approximately 9 Foundation tiles, though only about 8 tiles can be safely used due to the circular layout.

Bases also have a vertical build limit of approximately 16 tiles. Structures built within the base boundary are protected from decay and cannot be damaged or stolen by non-guild members.

Base Level

Base progression is tied to completing construction and deployment objectives, primarily unlocked through the Technology tree. Increasing the base level expands operational limits and unlocks the ability to construct multiple bases at once.
